About Us

The Oak Group is a privately held company based in Wellesley, Massachusetts and strategically located in the heart of Boston's high technology corridor, an area that is home to many of the most renowned medical facilities in the world.

The Oak Group was formerly known as Utilization Management Associates (UMA), which was founded in 1987 to develop a more modern and more stringent set of managed care criteria based upon the Appropriateness Evaluation Protocol (AEP). In 1996, The Oak Group acquired UMA and initiated a comprehensive review and improvement program based around the emerging needs of American and Canadian health care organizations.

Today, our complete line of decision-support products are based on our fundamental methodology, the Managed Care Appropriateness Program (MCAP), which is clearly shown in documented independent research and client surveys to provide the highest level of accuracy, reliability, specificity, and sensitivity available when used by appropriately trained non-physician users in evaluating hospital admission records.
